Get a Grip!

“Get A Grip” I will give you one free of charge

As the winter drags on, I can’t speak for you but I am starting to get “antsy”.  The holiday season has come and gone, football is over, and I have had enough of the indoors.  Last month, I wrote about exercise and/or flexibility regimens.  If you took my advice and began stretching daily: congratulations and don’t stop, your muscles will thank you when spring finally arrives.  When I write stretching daily, merely reaching for the remote on the coffee table doesn’t count.

This month I want to talk about the grip and how you can improve yours while you are trapped in your house.  First, maybe I should explain why the positioning of your hands on the golf club is important.  What other part of our bodies come in contact with the golf club during the swing?  I sincerely hope that your answer is the same as mine: no other parts of the body come in contact with the golf club during the swing.

What is the hands function in the golf swing?  Your hands are ALWAYS being moved, not moving independently.  We will address this further in future editions of Swing Talk, but for now, take my word for it.  If your hands are not positioned correctly on the golf club what does it mean to you:  loss of distance, loss of accuracy, and for many of us loss of temper!

I have a better idea, improve your grip!  Improving your grip will lead to a dramatic increase in the distance you hit the ball and much improved accuracy.  I do not know any golfers who would not like more distance and improved accuracy.

As I wrote at the beginning of this edition, I am starting to get “antsy” and I am willing to bet that you too have had enough of this winter.  I am offering you some time out of the house and it won’t cost you anything (other than some time and gasoline!)

Get in your car and come see me at Tanglewood.  I will position your hands on the golf club correctly.  I will also give you a drill that takes 15 to 20 minutes a day and if you do it for 3 weeks, you will have LEARNED the correct grip.

I repeat, this will not cost you anything and it will help your game immensely.  You don’t even need to make an appointment!  Stop by our golf shop on ANY February or March Saturday morning between 9 am and 12 pm and I will be happy to help you with not only the grip but also any other swing questions that you may have.

If Saturday morning doesn’t work for you, email me at richcarr1@comcast.net and we will find a time that suits your schedule.  A proper grip will produce astounding results in your game.

See You At Tanglewood,
